All,

I have a number of thinkpads, and I want to get a secondhand T40 or simliar, but I do not want to mess about with different power adaptors, my Z61t, X60 and T60 all share the same type of power plug.

So my question. Which thinkpads have the newer 20v plug/socket, and which have the older 16v one?

Thanks

Pretty sure the T40 you're considering has the older 16V one. I certainly have a 16V adaptor on my T42, different from the 20V one on my X61T.

The larger 20V plug/socket basically came in with the ThinkPad *6* models. The smaller 16V plug/socket has been used across a whole range of ThinkPad models prior to that going back over a fair number of years.

Great - thanks I'll have to keep looking out for a '6' series machine then.

Cheers
