Question About Replacement AC Adaptors

My wife has managed to lose the power brick for her X61. Let's just say this isn't the first time, and I'm really getting tired of it. :x

As I'm now down to one appropriate adapter, that being for my own T61, and I'm not about to let her walk out of the house with that one, I guess I have to do something. She can use it in the house to charge her 8-cell battery, so that will suffice for a while.

So, as usual, I went to eBay to look at adapters. To my surprise, most of the reasonably-priced ones seemed to have no pretense of being IBM / Lenovo units, but seem to be the same Chinese product labeled "Replacement AC Adapter". (Short, sweet, and pithy)

Does anyone have any experience with those aftermarket power bricks? I'm not one to be caught in the mystique of brand name products when the brand X product is every bit as good and is cheaper to boot. But it would be nice to hear that one or more of you have tried such a product and found it acceptable.

Like aftermarket batteries, I've had mixed results with the knockoff adapters. I've had enough failures with both that I don't bother with them anymore.

That said, I have an aftermarket adapter on my repair bench that is usually powering something 24/7 that has held up for five years or so. I think that the key here is that it is stationary and never moved around.

I've gotten a couple adapters from eBay. They're branded as Frontpath. One powers my wife's T30 and the other was used for a 600E. Now that I've moved on to a T43 I use the one from the 600E as a spare in the bedroom. When I take my T43 from the living room to the bedroom I don't have to drag the adapter with me. They've both been working for a couple years now.

Try the Lenovo outlet scratch and dent page. They have some nice prices on T6x adapters (you'd better get two ;));

Well, just to complete the saga, if anyone cares:

On eBay, I found a vendor of real adaptors (the picture showed IBM - I would have thought the newer "big barrel" 20v. adapters came with the Lenovo era) and picked up two for about $36, shipped. Can't complain. Had a PayPal "8% off your next purchase" coupon, which just about offset the California sales tax. They're the 4.5 amp guys, which probably is more than the X61 really needs, but this will give me the freedom to use 'em with the T61.

They were shipped yesterday, and might well get here today. And then "they" found the missing adapter where my wife had left it at her university; it was nice of someone to not just walk off with it.

So it looks like I'll have a plethora of adapters for a while.
