hi. i'm considering purchasing a PCIe expansion system that utilizes an Expresscard (54 i think... might be a 34 though). where is the slot on my R61 8932-CTO? there is a SD/MS/etc card reader on the front bezel. there is a PCMCIA cardbus slot on the left side with a loose piece of plastic just under where the PCMCIA card fits. i tried to get an Expresscard to fit where the PCMCIA card fits but it didn't seat. so where is the Expresscard slot :?:
cheers,

If your machine has an Expresscard slot, then it will be right above the slot for the PCMCIA card. However, it may be that you don't have one, but have a smartcard slot instead (that would be under the PCMCIA card slot then). You can tell the difference by how many eject buttons you have where the PCMICA card slot is: do you have two small ones (then you have an Expresscard slot), or do you have one rather large eject button (then you don't have one).

And if you have two PCMCIA slots, with one of them being an eXpress slott, it will have an X on the blue push-bar.

the eject button has only a triangle, and the PCMCIA slot is on top. i suppose the bottom slot is a smart card slot. what on earth would i use that for??

anyway, here are links to two pics if you're curious:

The options for the R61 seem to range from the top list to the bottom list. Since you have a CTO model, I don't think the options can be determined from the model number alone. You might try Parts lookup.

AFAIK, the Smart card is used for security - similar to a fingerprint reader.
