some websites think i'm not using firefox, acting strange
Re: some websites think i'm not using firefox, acting strange
Regarding Knoppix, v5.0 is quite an old version (from 2006), so I don´t know if it can handle NTFS at well (or even if it does, not sure how well that would be). To stay on the safe side, I would suggest you to use some distro with a recent kernel. If you like Knoppix, then use v6 or v5.3, that should be able to deal with NTFS well (I assume so, I have never used Knoppix).
Regarding splitting partitions, I don´t know if this is doable with Ubuntu LiveCD. For this purpose you will need some partition tool like GParted, I believe it is included in the LiveCD of Ubuntu, but I´m not sure whether you will be able to run it. I would rather use the "LiveCD" of GParted. GParted seems to be very solid program, the only disadvantage is that it takes criminally long to accomplish most operations (like overnight or even 48h depending on the operation and the disk size), but this is also why it is so solid piece of software.
Another solution would be to use Acronis Disk Director bootable media. If you have Acronis Disk Director, it includes a feature to create a bootable media, so you don´t need to boot into windows to use all its features.
As for all that R&R stuff, I´m not the right person to ask. I have abandoned R&R long time ago. When I need backup software, I use Acronis True Image Home. IMO it´s much faster and offers a few nice features. I have never had problems with it.
Cheers,
Marin

BTW, I just downloaded the AVG 7.5 installer provided on this site and indeed, installed it in a Virtual Machine, but after applying the first update, it started acting weird
I deleted the VM...

Re: some websites think i'm not using firefox, acting strange
ubuntu live cd did the trick for both splitting the hard drive partition, as well as accessing my denied access files. Although now my recovery partition, after i hit the thinkvantage button on startup, it gives me 4 options, it used to just send me straight to r&r. When i select the recover option to go to gives me ntldr missing. I wonder if splitting the partition affected the recovery partition. I did use knoppix in 2006 to split my partition when i got the system, and it didn't seem to affect it...
I've googled the issue and have found some solution options, just giving an update for future readers.
I'd love to be able to say i can stop bothering you now :/ we'll see

Re: some websites think i'm not using firefox, acting strange
can you really stand a power users account?
maybe there's something wrong w/ the way i set it up, but every time i try to paste a file over a file on my ultrabay disk, access is denied.
the files aren'tin the administrator's "my documents" folder either.
is it really that necessary to not work on an administrator account?

Log in as admin and check out the permissions set for the ultrabay drive (right click -> properties -> security) and change them

Re: some websites think i'm not using firefox, acting strange
that sounds too simple to be the solution!
when i right click the drive, there's a sharing tab, that says local sharing and security, there's a note that say sharing the root drive is not recommended, and after getting passed that, the checkboxes are not checked and greyed out, same if i go to a folder in the drive.
the only thing i can think is, when i added a password to the admin acct, it asked if i wanted to make the admin's documents private, i hit yes, but, the admin's documents are in the default location: C:\Documents and Settings\Master\My Documents
btw, i didn't use the built in administrator account named "Administrator" because it would involve turning off quick user switching, and i thought there wouldn't be a difference from making my own administrator account, which i named Master.
