lpt printer to X24 Thinkpad
lpt printer to X24 Thinkpad
I have a Laserjet 5MP printer, which has an LPT port. My X24 doesn't.
So...
Both printer and X24 have infrared ports, but try as I might, neither seems to work with each other, or other vintage devices, (like a Palm V). So that option seems out. The 5MP is apparently renowned for flaky IR anyway.
I have a LAN and router, but the HP doesn't have ethernet (I use it directly connected to my PC, which is at the moment, dead, thus my need to bypass it).
Has anyone used a USB/LPT cable with this kind of printer? Any issues?
I suppose a docking bay would be fairly foolproof, but think it might be an expensive option if I can find one (I'm not in the US, eBay is not workable).
Comments or suggestions welcome.

Get a little print server, such as this: http://www.netgear.com/Products/PrintSe ... PS101.aspx
Available nearly everywhere. Plugs into a free port in your router.
You can also get these for just USB, or larger ones that have both parallel (LPT) and USB.

I have one of these and it works well. 2 desktops and 2 laptops (wireless) use the same printer.

Well, it looks like the professional solution, but at $70 it costs several times what the printer did.RealBlackStuff wrote:Get a little print server, such as this: http://www.netgear.com/Products/PrintSe ... PS101.aspx

Also I'm not sure if some of my old DOS software can print to network printers (which is vital for me). Though it would be nice as it would use the existing wired/wifi LAN.
Anyway, next time I'm at the computer mall I'll check the local prices.

I picked mine up on E-bay for around $15.00 USD.
