Seagate Momentus 320 bad sectors

I decided to upgrade the 100GB drive on my X61s and picked up a Seagate Momentus 320/7200 rpm drive and cloned it without TOO many problems. After about a month, I started having Vista errors and ran the Seatools long test which it failed. It was replaced under warranty by Seagate with a remanufactured drive. After a week, I ran the long test for fun and there were 4 bad sectors which were repaired. It's been a few months and I just ran the long test...another single bad sector which it repaired.
Is this normal for a drive? I know that there are millions of sectors etc etc, but is an occasional bad one every few months acceptable?
Thanks

Not normal at all. You should RMA the drive again as soon as possible and get a replacement.

I would second it... also, you can push to get a new drive instead of a renewed one. Add a letter inside the box with the drive, and put a complaint ...

Third to that motion. Might I suggest though, you should go with Western Digital. In my experience they have a less defective rate percentage than anyone else. Well at least Seagate and Maxtor. Dunno about the Hitachi drives.

Personally I've had the best luck with WD and Hitachi drives. In 3.5" I tend to prefer WD, in 2.5" Hitachi. I haven't used Seagate in a long time but others swear by them. I've personally had Toshiba and Fujitsu drives go bad in the past.

I use exclusively Seagate in 3.5" and mostly Seagate in 2.5" (sometimes Fujitsu 2.5").
I have bad experiences with 2.5" Toshibas.
Seagate has 5 years warranty, the others 3 years or less!

Seagate changed their standard drive warranty from 5 years to 3 years as of Januray 1, 2009.

Does this apply to HDs purchased before 1. Jan 2009 and that supposedly came with the 5 year warranty?

Marin,
I don't know how warranties apply in your country but here they are valid from date of issue. In other words, if you had bought something in 2008 with a 5 year guarantee then it would be covered until 2013.

Basically that´s so everywhere, but since I haven´t got anything written from Seagate when having purchased my drive, I now thought they might have changed the basic conditions of warranty-servicing their HDs in a way applying to earlier purchased drives too (I haven´t read the "small print"). In other words, I was making sure for myself it´s not some sort of exception here.
Thanks,
Marin
