Telstra Mobile Broadband Next G with an F3507g WLAN Card

#1 Post by bill bolton » Wed Mar 25, 2009 6:56 pm

Lenovo Australia had a sale on Ericsson F3507g WLAN cards recently (ThinkPad 3G BroadBand Option, Part number: 43R9153) , so I bought one and fitted it to my T400 2764CTO, running Vista Ulimate x64, to use with Telstra's national Next G service.

The set up for using it with a Telstra Mobile Broadband SIM was straightforward. There is a "Telstra Mobile" option in the pick list of 3G service providers in Access Connections 5.21 so I set up a profile using that, then went into the advanced options and set the card to 3G only mode.

I used both the 3G and GPS services on the train trips to/from to my current client's office yesterday without any problems.

For now, I've put the Telstra Mobile Broadband SIM back into my Sierra 880U USB Next G modem as I can use it across all my ThinkPads, but the internal F3507g WLAN card is certainly a workable option for Next G connectivity using the Telstra Mobile Broadband service.

Just in case anyone asks... the Telstra Mobile Broadband Next G service offering is not the same thing as BigPond Next G service offering (though they both use the same 3G wireless network infrastructure), and I have no BigPond account so can't comment on how usable the Ericsson F3507g might be for BigPond purposes.

Cheers,

Bill B.
