Video Editing on a TP - thoughts?

I'm looking to start doing some very simple video editing from DV/HDV, and was wondering if a t6x or x6x TP machine equipped with Adobe Premiere CS3 can handle it? Assuming I purchase one of these machines with the following:

-Core Duo 1.66 or greater
-2 GB RAM or greater
-60GB 7200RPM HDD or greater

Would I be able to capture and edit a short video? Is a firewire port essential for capturing? Can an external USB 2.0 HDD substitute for the "dedicated" hdd that Premiere requires? Thanks for your thoughts!

Instead of the overpriced Adobe, try this:

But hurry, there's only 1 left!
I got one for my daughter, and she is delighted with it.
Her PC has only an Athlon XP1900, 1GB RAM and a cheapo 64MB AGP8 graphics card, but that program has absolutely no problems.
For HDs it has 40 and 80 GB IBM Deskstar (7200rpm) hard disks, nothing special really.
Firewire800 would be nice, it's the fastest capture possibility.
If the laptop does not come with it, you can get PCMCIA cards for it.

Sorry for going off topic, I´d like to ask which ThinkPads come with Firewire-800 (only the latest line)? Do T61 come with Firewire-800 too? I have only heard about Firewire-400 on ThinkPads (on my Z61p).

Thanks in advance,

Marin

Even my 'old' R52 has Firewire 400.
For F800 you will need an (expresscard or PCMCIA) adapter.
Laptops were not designed for editing video, it's an option...

Thanks for the feedback folks - I'm looking at a 1.8 Duo Core system with 3GB and a 60GB 7200 RPM drive - so I'm feeling comfortable. But is video capture possible via USB? And is using an external USB drive a viable option for a dedicated HDD?

Guess it depends on your camera.
If that doesn't have FW, then you won't need it in your laptop either.
USB2.0 (480Mb) has about the same theoretical speed as FW400 (400Mb).
FW800 has ca 800Mb.
