Active System Protection (ASP) : change hard disk

#1 Post by BeWog » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:42 am

Hi !

I bought a IBM ThinkPad T42p 2374-WML (second-hand) but it can concern others Thinkpad.
I would like to change hard disk because 60GB is too just for me. But if I change it, will I always have the "active system protection" ?

Other question : currently, I have a Hitachi hard disk : HTS726060M9AT00 ATA Device (60 Go, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100) and it supports "Adaptive Battery Life Extender" (ABLE). Will I see a difference if the new hard disk doesn't support it ?

Thank you for your help.

The actual APS system is on the motherboard, so yes if you change HDD you will still have APS.

Some time ago there was a discussion about which HDs support APS. It seems that not all recent laptop HDs properly support APS on low level.

To be honest, I don´t really know, but it seems to me so. I could dig out that discussion, so you may want to have a look yourself -> Hitachi HD and APS.

Thank you for your answer.
I began to read your link and it's very strange to have different hard disks !!

I also asked on Lenovo forums and someone from Lenovo Staff confirm : "you'll still have active protection. Its components are on the board; the drive doesn't matter."
