Should get 2 or 3 year Warranty?

Are 2 and 3 year warranties, or even 4 years offered by Lenovo, over top of the standard 1 year worth it?

The question is perhaps better stated as either of the following assuming Lenovos are really that reliable.
  • Are all Lenovo Thinkpads SO reliable that an extended warranty beyond the standard 1 year is unnecessary?
  • Is reliability of past Lenovo Thinkpad models SO good that one can generalize or even point to it as constituting proof new models will be trouble free to the extent that a warranty beyond the standard 1 year is unnecessary?

There are so many parts and assemblies in a computer that no past history is a reliable indicator for future breakdown points. In other words, mean time between failures is just that and your machine may work forever or have a major breakdown the day after warranty expires.

I got a four year warranty with my T61p. My T41 lasted five years, and I expect my T61 to last five years, but I shall take my chance on the fifth year. ... JDH
