C: drive wiped, how to reinstitutes F4 and F10

I wiped the C: drive on my Thinkpad T43 (it's a long story) and have gradually been reinstalling the IBM utilities I need. What do I need to do to get back the F4 (sleep) and F10 (hibernate) functions back?

Thanks,

Joe

Install the Thinkpad Hotkey driver and configure the Power Settings in the Control Panel?

I've installed the Hotkey driver but in the Power Options still only seem to have the option of "Do nothing" under what happens when you close the lid...

For XP and Vista, you need the ACPI Power Management driver 1.42, and Power Manager (XP-1.54, Vista-2.43), as well as the Hotkey Utility. For Vista you also need the Lenovo System Interface Driver. You might want to install the appropriate video driver as well.

Thanks for this. I've downloaded and installed both drivers. I now can access the Thinkpad Power Manager (through the Power Options and the Taskbar. I've set the Advanced setting to put the computer to sleep when I close the lid, but it's still not happening. Can you think what might be going wrong?

Do I have to set up the Hotkey driver so that F4 and F10 put the computer to sleep/hibernate? How do I do that?

You should also install the Intel Chipset Drivers. The order of driver installation can make a difference. If after installing the Intel Chipset Drivers it still doesn't work, try uninstalling the drivers you have already installed in reverse order, then reinstall the drivers in the following order.

I believe the following should be the correct order to install.
1. Intel Chipset Drivers
2. Lenovo System Interface driver (Vista only)
3. ACPI Power Management driver
4. Power Manager
5. Video driver software
6. Hotkey utility

I don't think you have a BIOS issue, but perhaps the newer drivers don't work with the older BIOS (if you have an older BIOS). You can download and install the latest BIOS if you do not have it already.

Thanks so much! That did the trick. I'll save a mirror of the drive so I don't have to go through all this again!

Joe, I am pleased to hear you have it all sorted out now. It is definitely a good idea to create a full back up.
