After taking a look at my T60 cpu and gpu I noticed that their plastic of the plastic rectangle is somewhat melted: There is some hard plastic around this black rectangle (cpu / gpu) which obiously shouldn't be there. Is that a problem and should I worry?

Difficult to say from just your description. Pictures might help.
Sounds anyway as if there is (or has been) a serious overheating problem!

Is it under warranty?

I use tpfancontrol and only let the fan start at the beginning of 85 celsius. The notebook is under warranty but I dissassembled it completely today.

If it is under warranty then I'd have sent it back for repair or replacement.

That's about 25-30 degrees C too high!
And by taking it apart, you just ruined your warranty. Not a clever thing to do, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure that taking it apart voids the warranty. But 85C is waaaaaay too high for the fan to come on.
check with Lenovo, but I would remove tpfan control and use the stock settings. Does the computer boot at all?

The computer works fine as now all my cpu, gpu and ssd have melted parts they seem to be a great team together. I plan on upgrade my motherboard to a wwan capable one that has integrated graphics anyway. I'll keep you upgraded when this system is not working anymore

Just so you all know, taking the laptop apart does not void the warranty. Now, if you manage to break something while you have it apart, Lenovo won't cover the repair.

Why would you do that!???

You cooked your CPU. The fan should be on WAY before the temps you have set.

Why?

The "Inside Look T60: System features: CPU" shown on lenovo service training videos is melted, too. That melting could a normal behavior throughout this thinkpad series.

Well, if you wish to believe that having the fan turn on at 85 Celsius, and the CPU and GPU melting is normal, then far be it for me to try to dissuade you.

Of course it is. It is also normal that the side effects of your CPU and GPU going "sunbathing" courtesy of improperly set TPFC show up in full force anywhere from three days to three months after the warranty has expired...

I'd be very happy if someone could take a look at the lenovos training video picture of the T60 cpu and tell me if this cpu is melted (it looks like mine). If yes, it's like Renault having a crashed car picture for product presentation on their webpage.

After reading through lots of posts in this forum, lenovo tells us that cpu and gpu temperature up to 85 or more are by design, is that true?

Hard to know what you're talking about without pictures and the video isn't that clear.

Out on a limb, could you be referring to the thermal paste/thermal grease that is on the CPU and GPU? It's gray and some may leak out onto the sides of the CPU/GPU.

This is when the black chip (CCC) on either cpu or gpu is just as it is:

As an example, the upper right chip in this picture shows this black melting.

From my understanding, the black parts (cc) 1. are not intended and 2. do come from the heated chip (CCC) which was heated and because of the heat it melts. I am referring to the official "melted cpu" picture within the lenovo videotraining. My received brand new ibm mainboard also has the "melted plastic" effect on its gpu, so I am not convinced and still curious if my statement "this is melted" stands correct.

That's the black factory glue that holds the chip onto its little green board.

Trust me, a chip will stop working long before it melts.
