repair depot experience

#1 Post by worldwidepants » Sat May 02, 2009 3:11 pm

I recently sent in my trusty T61 to the repair depot under a standard 3 year warranty for a fan replacement/repair. After 3 weeks of no contact, I was beginning to feel worried that the notebook had been lost and thus, I made a call into support, who sent a message to the repair depot to expedite the process. I received my T61 a few days later.

When I went to open the lid, to my horror, there were a few scratches on the screen and hair like particles behind the front of the LCD that were not there prior to its trip to the repair depot.

Has any other Thinkpad owners had this experience? What did you do in your case? Is there somebody that I can contact regarding the scratches on my screen? I am very meticulous with my belongings and these scratches are driving me insane everytime I use my computer for work.

I've been lurking for years and I wish my first post wasn't about how my Thinkpad's been scratched.

Thanks

Contact the repair center, describe the problem. Tell them that you received the laptop back with the screen scratched and with multiple other defects and that you demand that the screen is replaced, since no such damage was present when you sent it in (if it was, they would have to record it). Do it ASAP, to reduce the chances of someone claiming that the damaged was inflicted by you after the laptop was returned.

I had a bad experience with on-site replacing of the LCD of my T61p this monday.

The person doing the replacing had a bad time taking the display plastic frame out and and left some dents all around the plastic, both on the cover as in the frame (ok, I confess I was a bit afraid that they have glued together of one time I spilled almost a whole yogurt all over the display).

Moreover there's now a small crack on each side of the top cover (behind of the LCD) maybe because of the force he made to take the frame out and the top of the cover is not completely straight, on the middle 1/3 is goes a bit down.

The plastic screw covers (that he had to take out to unscrew) where extremely dented (had to cover them with some label or my eyes would ended up there all the time).

Well, the frame and top cover are not 100% ok but I got a nice shiny display (the old one had developed some spots of uneven backlight that annoyed me much) (I insisted on having a LG display as I tried to replace this laptop with another one with a Samsung one and I found it substandard, with easy identifiable patterns of horizontal lines on the grey of my top panel) and as this is the company laptop I don't that much about cosmetic things. If it was my personal laptop I would have complained (remembered that's why I don't care having a personal laptop :)).
