Identifying thinkpad display on Linux

#1 Post by japc » Mon May 11, 2009 11:44 am

Hi. Is there a (software) way of identifying the display (tft) model on linux?

The tft has been changed and I would like to know, for completion sake, what is the new model.

TIA.

To answer my own question :) After some investigation:

You can get the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) from /proc (
/proc/acpi/video/VID1/LCD0/EDID).

That get's you the binary data, you can get the product id with parse-edid from read-edid or with a simple strings:

$ strings ~/edid.bin $ cat /proc/acpi/video/VID1/LCD0/EDID | strings
