Lenovo Maintenance - Dim LCD
Lenovo Maintenance - Dim LCD
Has anyone ever successfully gotten a dim LCD replaced on any model Thinkpad that is under maintanance contract, and if so how did you quantify the issue? It seems to me that 'dimness' is very subjective and it might be a point of contention depending on who one speaks to at Lenovo service. I have a T60 model that I'd guess is at 60% to 70% or so of original brightness at the full setting. Is there any way to test for this via conventional (read free) methods?

Yep, the last time I've managed to get it done was last year on a T43p now owned by kajencik. The first time around they just swapped the inverter, I got back on the phone and the next thing you know it had a new LCD.
The exact description that I've used is "that the LCD is not as bright as it used to be", and it has worked well on several different occasions over the last few years...
Good luck.

Re: Lenovo Maintenance - Dim LCD
Bah. I just find minor cosmetic flaws that tend to develop over time. Either dust specs inside the LCD, or the "backlight peering through" white spots. Then when I feel it's time for a new and bright LCD, I take it in, claim this defect (which is always visible and cannot be denied) and they replace it with a brand new and bright one.
