Best Wireless Card?

#1 Post by philip » Wed May 27, 2009 11:56 pm

Hello,

I am about to buy a thinkpad (T400 or T500) and wasn't sure what wireless card works best. I have an old T43 and the Thinkpad a/b/g was the best card at the time.
Currently there are four options: ThinkPad WiFi (BGN), Intel WiFi Link 5100 (AGN), Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN), and Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 (AGN). Which has the best signal with fewest dropped connections? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Philip

I have a 5300 in W500 that I'm typing on now, the card is fast and has good reception, however some major driver issues are still present. It tends to disconnect when the machine goes to sleep and the only way to re-connect is a re-boot, along with a couple of other problems. And I have spent more time updating/un-installing/re-installing the drivers than I'd care to admit...

Personally, I'd choose Atheros over Intel any day, but that's just me...
