R&R failed - This is not the correct disc

Hello,

In order to not start this post with less kind words regarding Lenovo and their "quality" of ThinkVantage software in general -
I am facing the problem encountered here:

http://commm.ic.cz/lenovo/

Like the user there, i have two DVDs - 1 which is bootable, and one carrying the OS - all made by R&R.
i wanted to do this recovery, since i have echanged to a new harddrive. But i cannot get any further than this error: "This is not the corret disc. Please remove the disc and press Ok."

Both discs are genuines from Tayio Yuden, so data integrity is no issue. There is no problem reading the contents of them in any DVD drive i have tried. They don't have a single scratch.

Since this 2623-DDU T60p i am trying to recover is bought in the US i know that warranty is not covered over here.
- Would Lenovo/IBM still send me recovery discs free of charge? I mean - should this be something that only the warranty covers?
- How would i explain them that I need the English/US edition of the recovery cds? Isn't it only possible to get localized versions of Windows XP on thinkpads? (i.e. in Denmark only danish WXP is possible, in Germany only the German edition is possible to order with a new thinkpad and so on...)

- Does anyone have a copy of recovery discs for the T60p they want to nearly give away for free? I can send them back after i have used them if the person want that.. no problem at all :)

or

Is there anyway to solve this error and get onwards?

I had the same problem with an R52, 1 CD and 1 DVD.
First time it complained it couldn't find the restore partition, please start all over.
The second time around it went through without a hitch.
Perhaps do CD 1 again?

Did it all over again twice now, and even unallocated the disk space again, by using an external HDD SATA enclosure with another PC with partition magic.
Still the same error :|

Thanks for the idea though

Are you sure it is not asking for the supplemental disc first? If it is click the button to tell it you do not have the supplemental disc and it will then ask for restore disc 1. Then your other DVD will work.
That one has gotten me more than once.

Yes, it asks for the supplemental disk as the firs thing, but i clicked No, as i don't have it, and it propted me for disc 1. I inserted that one (DVD, which is not the start-up disk) but it tells me it is not the correct disc.
I tried clicking "yes" also to see if that made a difference, but no difference.

It would be nice if there was some sort of verbose mode, to indicate what it is looking for and why it isn't working.
I mean, if it is checking for the size of the medium, it obviously wouldn't work with a DVD containing all regular cds.

The DVD which it says is incorrect contains an RRbackups folder. Inside that folder there are two subfolder: C and common. C contains a subfolder called 0.
This folder contains:
  • CDfile
    Data0
    Data1
    .
    .
    .
    Data74
    EFSFile
    HashFile
    Info
    TOCFile
Directory common contain:
  • backups.dat
    bt0.dat
    hints.dat
    mnd.dat
    regcerts.dat
    rr.log
    SAM
    secpolicy.dat
    settings.dat
    system.dat
    tvtns.bin
    usersids.dat
That's all the DVD contains. 3.49 GB in total

I STILL have my service parition on the old HDD - can this be of any use somehow? I mean.. does this contain everything the DVD does, so that if i unhide this partition on the old drive, and copy all contents to an equally sized partition on the new drive - would RR then work, or will this always require the CDs/DVDs?

That looks like the wrong DVD.
I have one here from a T43/R52, which has just a directory "Recovery" in the root.
Inside Recovery is one sub-dir "IUSDK" and a whole bunch of .CRI and .IMZ files, .MOP files, PQIDEPLOY.EXE and few odds and ends.
Nothing even close to what you have!

You are indeed right. I had a look at the service partition, and yes, that too contains many .cri, .mop files and such. No Data0, Data1 etc. I wonder what this stuff is and what it is used for.
Anyways, i installed R&R 4.21 (i think it was) and funnily enough it let me create OS recovery discs... I did this with 1 cd + 1 DVD and this time the content was correct, and i could successfully recover the OS and service partition on the new HDD. 8)

Thank you very much for checking the content of your recovery disk, RealBlackStuff!
