Any hope for a borked ThinkVantage button (in software)?

Long story short I installed Windows 7 on my SL400, wanted to go back to Vista 32bit home with the R&R restore by means of the magic blue button at post. The ThinkVantage button however is now "broken" as the MBR got toasted by win7.
I now have a borrowed copy of Vista 64bit ultimate installed, and I installed R&R 4.21. I had never installed anything to my S: and Q: drives so that recovery data is still there, however S: is now showing up as D: and I can't change it back.
The Q: auto run program still prompts me to burn recovery media, however it can't find "recovburncd.exe" to burn it in my \Lenovo\factory recovery\ folder in program files on c:.
using R&R i did burn a bootable recovery CD, but within that R&R environment it can't find any source of a backup on my S:/D: drive or Q: drive.
Poking around in Q: i can see the sdrivebackup.wim and cdrivebackup.wim so I know it's there, but I just need something else to get this all rolling.
Can anyone lend a hand? Lenovo won't send me repair disks since win7 is unsupported still.
Thank you so much if you can help
