Which Thinkpad for Multimedia apps???

I own a T30 and with 16mb of VRAM it's severely limited in many aspects. It does the job w/ day to day internet use and can play video's decently. I'm not planning on gaming but the it's reassuring to know that your Thinkpad can handle snazzy applications. I'm just wondering which Thinkpad can handle DVD Transcoding?

I mean like Nero stuff. I have an AVI file that I was going to burn to DVD and during the transcode my CPU temp crept higher and higher. It got to almost Seventy Celsius and that's SO ABOVE my daily use I freaked. I just canceled the operation and decided to leave the heavy duty stuff to my sisters desktop. I can be somewhat of a AV geek so I'm left wondering which combination of processor and Thinkpad charisma would be suitable for a girl like me

I also wanted to say that converting bitrates on audio also had the same effects as the video. The T30 I have has been good to me so I'm thinking of selling it and buying a T42 or if I get real lucky a T61! I got a lot of research to do.

Well, in the Thinkpad line the best machines for video work would contain a Core 2 Duo CPU, a decent GPU, and lots of RAM. So, if $$ is a concern, then you are looking at the (late) T60 and T61 series. The 'P' machines have the better GPU's and LCD's. Also, some of the T60 Core Duo machines can be upgraded to Core 2 Duo. Save up some cash, it would be worth it if you are that into creative video. You can get into that type of machine for $400 and up.
