Lenovo battery replacement policy?

Hi I am a proud owner of a used (new to me) thinkpad t400.

From my understanding Lenovo keeps their batteries under warranty for 1 year.
That 1 year for my laptop is over March of 2010.

So I was wondering how does one get the battery replaced under warranty? Does it have to stop working? Does it have to be severely dysfunction or can you ask for a replacement in 1 year?

Basically how do they determine who gets a new battery and who doesn't.

It is the same as a washing machine with a one year warranty. The supplier will only replace it (or repair it) if there is a genuine fault. Philanthropy is not common in business. :roll:

I guess my point is how does Lenovo define defective? Is it in relationship to how much charge the battery holds? Is it that if the battery completely dies?

I got a battery replaced by simply calling them up and telling them that the power manager was showing the battery as being in critical (or poor health) status.
