WD Scorpio Blue vs Black disk

Does anyone have own experience when it comes to compare the WD Scorpio Blue (5400rpm) and Black (7200rpm) 2.5" disks? Reason for asking is that while the specs shows couple of differences, but when checking the difference of access time and latency of the disks I'm far from convinced if the Black is the drive to get or not...

I have two identical T60p's, one of which just had a hard drive failure. I had the same question you did after doing a lot of research. So I bought one of each in the 320GB capacity. While I have not benchmarked them, I can tell you based on the fact that I use my T60p everyday for work which is very processor intensive, that the Black is clearly faster. In fact, much faster than I anticipated. While I've mostly used Hitachi Travelstars in the past with complete satisfaction, I wanted to try something different. Both of these run a bit cooler, and noticeably quieter than the 7200rpm Hitachi's they replaced.

Cheers...

Thanks for the feedback! I've been looking around for some kind answers without finding anything remotely close to what you're saying. I've also been sticking to Hitachi; but been lurking around the WD drives lately... guess it's time to give them a try.

I'm sure you will be as impressed, and satisfied as I am with their silent, cool and fast performance.

Cheers...
