Can anyone recommend a GOOD keyboard for a desktop?
Can anyone recommend a GOOD keyboard for a desktop?
I need a good quality, and reasonably QUIET keyboard for the office. I use an old IBM Model M (the clicky type) at home and I love it, but is sounds like a machine gun when I am typing fast and as much as I'd love to bring it in, the noise will just not be ok at the office.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality keyboard that I can take to the office? I want it to be at least as nice as the keyboard on my Lenovo T60.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

They don't come much nicer than this Logitech:

I have the identical one since probably 2001, and it still works as good as day one.
Bought one for the wife recently (from above eBay seller) and she too loves it.

Take a trip to your local big box store(s) and try the ones on display until you find one that meets your requirements. The one I'd buy may not be what you'd prefer.

Well, yeah, I tried that and did not like any of them. I thought perhaps someone in here would have similar taste as me. I love the Model M clicky keyboard. I really like my T60 keyboard. Just fishing for suggestions.dsvochak wrote:Take a trip to your local big box store(s) and try the ones on display until you find one that meets your requirements. If you got money to burn...
I came from a ca. 1987 Omnikey 102 (the then Rolls Royce of keyboards), and switched to this Logitech as a worthy successor.
And I am very finicky with keyboards, believe you me!

Re: Can anyone recommend a GOOD keyboard for a desktop?
how about a "library model M"?
"IBM keyboard without mechanical "buckling springs"
(part# 71G4644). While it appears identical and shares
same physical dimensions to a "traditional IBM model
M", this keyboard uses "rubber dome" key switches and
as such does not "click" "clack" noise as in other
keyboards of this series. Keyboard is as well
constructed as 1391401, but it is intended for
environments where noise control is an issue
(libraries, quiet offices, shared cubicles), etc.."

and several others

I just learned that those old IBM Model M keyboards (with buckling springs) are still available.
IBM spun-off their desktop PC products to Lexmark, who then sold the technology to make durable keyboards to Unicomp.
