Hi,
I have a Thinkpad T60p with an Advanced Dock, and I am interested in buying a PCIe video card for the Advanced Dock. As I understand it, I will need a full-height, half-length PCIe video card that needs no more than 55W of power. However, apparently this card will also need to be "thin" in order to fit inside the dock! I have no idea how thin "thin" really is. I have seen a pair of passively-cooled ATI cards from Sapphire which look plausible: the 4350 and the 4550, which are about 2cm thick and 2.5 cm thick respectively. Can anyone advise me as to how thick the PCIe card can be, while still fitting within the Advance Dock, please? Would either of these Sapphire cards work? I am assuming that either would improve upon my T60p's built-in V5250 chip.
Thank you,
Chris
Video cards for Thinkpad Advanced Dock?
For the record...
I have discovered that a Powercolor Radeon HD4650 card fits in the Advanced Dock's PCIe slot perfectly; it is passively cooled, and its heatsink is mercifully thin. However, the dock's fan is surprisingly loud!
