Log in gets stuck in Access Connections
Machine is 7664RYU, T61.
Used IBM tools to backup disk to dvds, then transfer to a larger hard driver. When I boot it sometimes got stuck. After using finger print or logging in with password it complained it could not find css_banner.dll. Ok through that calls an Access Connections box, then instead of logging it opens a Fingerprint Enrollment window. The "Next" button on this screen shows a screen asking for a password for my user name. Entering correct password yields: a box stating that 'Passport name "myAccount" cannot be used for new passport'... and then gets stuck.
Now it does this every time I boot. I can't log in. I can remove disk and access it over USB from another PC. I can see the whole file system. Is there a way to disentangle this issue with the file system? I moved css_banner.dll to Windows\System32 and then the error message about css_banner.dll goes away, but the rest of the problem persists.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Andy

Re: Log in gets stuck in Access Connections
Using another PC, with my drive connected over USB, I renamed:
C:\Program Files\Lenovo
C:\Program Files\ThinkPad
C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage
C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Fingerprint solutions
and then re-inserted drive and laptop and booted. It now lets me log in with a password.
Any suggestions on how to disentangle this mess? In particular, what should I re-install, and should I un-install something first?
Thanks

Re: Log in gets stuck in Access Connections
Narrowed it down further.
If I just rename C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities, the pc can boot.
bad, bad ConnectUtilities.
I tried renaming some of the individual exes in that dir... but then pc booted and hung after fingerprint. I had to remove battery to power off. So further experiments with that don't seem like a great idea.
Any suggestions on what I should uninstall/reinstall and in what order?

Andy,
I've read your posts and it is difficult understand your approach. You say you used IBM Tools to create back up DVDs.
IMO, the best way is to use ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery to create a DVD back up. Then change your HDD and restore from the DVD back up.
I hope this helps.

Re: Log in gets stuck in Access Connections
Thanks, sorry I wasn't clear, I did exactly as you described. By IBM tools I meant ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery. After restoring the backup, log in after reboot would periodically get stuck, and then finally every time it got stuck, till I connected HDD to another PC over USB and renamed C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities. Now I'm wondering what I should uninstall/re-install to try and get back to completely working.
