3 Partitions, What's Needed?

Hi,

New T400 came with 3 partitions: SW Preload, Lenovo, and Service003. Do I need the additional partions? What exactly is on them?

Lenovo has Showroom and SWTools. Total 19.5gb
Service003 has recovery, swwork, windows. Total 1.46gb

I always thought the rescue and recovery backups were saved to one of these partitions, but I am now getting R&R backup space is full message.

Any input is appreciated.
Thank you

That is new. My T61p (and all before) came with two partitions: Recovery and The_Rest. I have not heard of 3, so a T400 owner will need to answer. I don't think you would use these to store an R&R backup unless somehow they are expandable. ... JDH

Thanks, I read that article. That bodes poorly in my opinion. Having a small OS partition is a route to disaster (especially with a disk hog like Vista) in that 15 out of 10 software writers insist on writing their programs and data to the OS drive. It will be full before people look sideways. And then, when the inevitable 1 Gb Service Pack comes out, that too will rupture the OS partition.

Microsoft thinks they know more than users (and they do not); now we have Lenovo doing the same thing. ... JDH

I'm confused. What's on the S partition that requires it be a separate, 3rd, partition?

And now within seconds we have a poor user where S: is a work assigned drive (as it is at one of my own clients) and it has an inevitable conflict with a T400. My T61p does not even have a letter for the recovery partition. I do not have a T400 and I do not agree with removing recovery partitions (purely my own opinion) so I don't know what to suggest. ...
