New Drivers again

I ran System Update today (something I do once or twice a month). There was a whack of new updates very, very recently for my T61p (but for other Thinkpads as well). New Power Manager (2.50), new Power Driver (1.53), new Hotkey features (2.20), new Presentation Director (4.04), new UltraNav driver (12.2.3.1) and others. That is a lot of new drivers in a short period of time, so my guess is Lenovo is getting ready for Windows 7.

System Update is calling Help Centre *critical*. Any idea why? I have it installed, but I don't use it. Why on earth would it be critical?

Also, UltraNav had to be uninstalled, and the Thinkpad restarted *before* you could install the new version.

So lots to do this evening for people who like to keep their machines up-to-date. So far everything is working. .... JDH

Probably a bug that prevented people from accessing all the help articles or maybe just a large update to the help articles (for Windows 7). That's where my guess goes.

Yup. I had the same happen to me and my T60p. This is Lenovo's new updates/hotfixes/drivers delivery system. Did you also have to install a 2nd software piece called Messages Plus or something similar??

No, I did not install Messages Plus. I do all my stuff manually, so I ran Software Update, and jotted down the 6 things that I use and wanted updated. Then I closed, went and found the updates and did them manually. That is how I know UltraNav had to be uninstalled before upgrading. I finished and ran Perfect Disk and now all is running smoothly next morning. ... JDH

I noticed today my Logitech mouse was acting strange. A tendency to double click when I did not. I tried resetting the mouse (remove batterie and replace) to no avail. I then looked in the mouse settings and realized all settings had reverted to default including the (much reviled) touch pad. I reset everything with some significant improvement, and then thought, "Let's reset the whole system", so I turned off the thinkpad, removed the wireless mouse receiver, restarted fully, inserted the wireless mouse receiver and now all is back to normal.

When I was upgrading the UNAV driver I had to uninstall. I guess uninstallation took the settings with it, and I was starting very fresh with the new driver.

I also noticed my Power Manager (I use Windows for this) was also acting strange, and I discovered that the Presentation Manager upgrade changed my default scheme.

Do check *everything* now when you upgrade drivers. ... JDH
