CPU upgrade affecting heat?

Hi all!
I have a Z61t with a C2D T7200 2.0GHz CPU. It runs pretty darn hot, but its manageable. I have the opportunity to upgrade the CPU to a T7500 2.2GHz CPU, but I'm wondering if it will run significantly hotter? Any input appreciated!

T7500 won't work as it's the wrong socket.

Not just socket... the T7200 is a CPU designed to be soldered directly to the motherboard while the T7500 uses an actual socket.

Most implementations of the Yonah and Merom CPUs are socketed, though I think you can solder them if you want. I've upgraded CPUs on ThinkPads with Yonah and Merom CPUs like the T7200. They're socketed, not soldered. The only one left that's still soldered is the X series.

The CPU definitely isn't soldered, but you are right, different sockets, thanks, that saved me some time

I just re-looked it up. Intel makes both a PGA and BGA version. When I did my google search I just clicked the first Intel link and it brought up the BGA page. So I stand corrected

Is X200 series socketed or soldered, I am having 1 P8400 & intended to swap a P9600 in future when prices come down.
thanks.

ALL X-series have soldered CPUs.

Which is mind boggling. Is it really the extra height introduced by the socket that makes the difference, for the X-series, which need to be ultra-thin?
If that's the case, I'm wondering whether the T400s CPU will be soldered. Eagerly waiting for an HMM to be published to check...

And indeed, the
T400s HMM shows that the T400s CPUs are soldered (CPU is part of the system board assembly, not a separate FRU).
