Warranty support for a second hand T42p

I just won an eBay auction for a used T42p. I'm sure it has some kind of warranty remaining (the seller didn't know; he bought six of them from a bankruptcy auction). What's IBM's policy on transfering warranties? Could I potentially extend it as well?
Though my ASUS has been a very reliable workhorse, I can't wait for the T to arrive!

You should be able to inherit the warranty without problem. IBM tracks warranty by serial number.

You can lookup warranty info for your thinkpad in the above page.

Thanks Sugo. What is the standard warranty? I hear a lot about a 3 year rapid response kind of thing.

Most T42 comes with 3 years warranty. Some Express models come with 1 year.

The "standard" Thinkpad warranty is for three years and covers the machine soup-to-nuts with the exception of abuse or accidental damage (e.g. broken display). Services are normally provided through EasyServ service whereby, when you have a problem you contact IBM via an 800 number, they send a shipping box to you via courier and then pick up the unit for transport to a service center.
The repaired unit is returned to you via courier, usually within 48 to 72 hours, depending on parts availability.
Regards,
James
