thinkpad plugged in, no lights

My thinkpad was fine last night, but I was sleeping on a porch in Maine and it may have been subject to condensation. As I recall, this morning it was plugged in and the charging light was on. I unplugged it and put it in my travel case. When I tried to start it on the road, no lights came on. I took out the battery and wiped the leads and tried again. This time the lights came on as if it was about to start, then they went off after about 5 seconds.

Now that I'm home I've plugged it in and it doesn't indicate it's charging. I tried starting with and without the battery pack, nothing.

I found a post that suggested I switch it off and on ten times (without it being connected) then plug it in (sans battery) and turn it on. Again the lights went on briefly as if it was going to start, then nothing.

I'm lost without my thinkpad! Can anybody suggest any fixes?

Joe

I put the computer in front of a fan for an hour and that seemed to sort the problem. It then started as normal. I guess there was some condensation somewhere that was stopping the connections.

Sorry to bother everyone!

Awesome! Nice going. Glad it's working for you again! :)

The same "rule" applies to cell phones. If they're dropped in water, rip the battery out as fast as you can, and disassemble it as much as you can. Then put it under a lamp overnight, so it can dry properly.

I had an A31p at one time (by the way, what an awesome machine was that!) and poured a full glass of wine right into that keyboard. I ripped the power cord out and battery out, let it lie upside down overnight. After I cleaned the keyboard, it worked fine the following day. Some keys still stuck a bit. lol...
