Hi,

I bought a T60 from Ebay, it arrived today and looks mint Im really happy with the condition. The stickers on it look new and there are no scratches or anything. I don't think it was used much, or they did an excellent job of refurbishing it.

That said, the laptop was advertised/listed with an IBM warranty until Jun-2010, but when I typed in the serial I found the warranty was in fact already expired.

Vendor said he would give me his own warranty on hardware until Jun-2010 and added a note to my contract.

Id much rather have IBM warranty, but what does it cover exactly? It is just hardware or other things like plastics, etc.

I was planning to extend the IBM warranty but guess I cant now.

So if you do buy an Ebay machine or any machine advertised with service, ensure the vendor either gives you serial or confirms your exact model's warranty before you purchase. (My machine was part of a shipment batch and vendor only checked a few samples...)

Other than that the T60 its a GREAT machine, I find the 15" perfect and the FlexView is very nice.

You could contact Lenovo. There's a small chance there's an error in the database, but it's pretty common for sellers to pawn off refurbed machines on eBay. I don't know that I'd accept the seller offer to warrant the machine as they already ripped you off once. Perhaps you can negotiate a discount and go without the warranty if it seems like a solid machine otherwise. You can dispute the charge with PP or the CC company and you're almost certainly likely to win the dispute, but will probably be out whatever it costs you to ship it back. Good Luck.

I dont buy much on Ebay so when the laptop arrived in its air-sealed bag and looked mint with not a scratch on it I was so happy that I already left 5-star feedback right away...

Only after did I think to confirm the warranty and find out it had expired.

The vendor seems to be a pretty large outfit, I think he has an online store, Ebay store, plus 4 locations in each part of Canada so I hope he can give service if/when I need it.

At first I was a bit disappointed as I planned to extend the warranty via IBM, but I try to take things easy these days; if anything really bad happens I know for 100% I can come to the forum and people will help me out with solid advice on how to fix it Thanks again!!!

I'd still try to get some money from them just cause they may offer you a warranty, but you've seen how shady they are. It's too bad you left feedback. That would be a big incentive for them to do right by you.

Yes youre right, I shouldn't have left positive feedback until I tested the machine for a while first, or at least checked the warranty. Then I could have left a negative and poor comment...

But Id still be hesitant to do so because the vendor only has 4 negative out for 1036 total in the past year. So maybe it was an over-site.

Just letting other people to know about this, and to verify the warranty themselves before purchase...!!! Maybe this is common practice on Ebay to screw other people, I just assumed the seller knew what warranty it had..

Regardless, the machine IS in Grade-A/Excellent shape as listed and hasn't exploded yet in the 5 hours its been on

To assist/warn other people when buying on eBay, perhaps you should mention the eBay userID of this seller?

Perhaps others weren't as smart to check the warranty or didn't know how, but are in for a surprise down the road. I wouldn't cut them much slack. With 6000+ sales, goodasnewcomputers_canada knows what they're doing. Your notebook without warranty is worth less. Getting some money from them seems a reasonable proposition. Even if they warranty it, who knows what that means. You still have the dispute process hanging over them. It probably will costs them more to take it back than give you some refund. Good Luck.

But the laptop did arrive in perfect shape, and the battery holds 100% charge with only 54 cycles. Still 10mos warranty would have been nice, as listed...

Well, you should try and get something out of them...10 months warranty is at least $100 in my book...

Do you know when the warranty expired? I think you may be able to extend the warranty within 30 days after it's expired. (someone please quote me if I'm wrong).
