T43 recovery disc #41x4112

Hey guys I'm new to the forum as a registered user but I've lurked on here since about May of this year. Everyone here seems to be knowledgeable and friendly so I thought this would be the place to ask this question. I bought (on Ebay) a new set of recovery discs (FRU# 39K9211) for an IBM T43 (2668 WMY) that belongs to my girlfriend as a "just in case" type of thing to have on hand if the drive goes south or whatnot. At the time I bought the discs, everyone that had the correct sets for our machine had a 7 disc set. I've noticed recently that some people have sets for sale with 8 discs. The oddball disc is labeled as a " Lenovo Supplemental Product Recover CD Part#41X4112 and it seems that it's only available in the complete set and not seperately. What does this disc have on it and is it really anything to be worried about?

When I bought the 7 disc set I was looking for a complete set that would put everything (apps, drivers, and OS) back on the machine if it went down. When we bought it through the IBM employee purchase program as a recertified machine, I had to comb Lenovo's site for all of the drivers and utilities to bring it up to date (major PITA) and was trying to avoid that in the future. I really don't want to experiment with the machine by backing up and wiping it to test the discs just to see what they will or won't do. Lenovo's site has the part# of the recovery discs I bought as a listed FRU, but doesn't have a part# breakout of the individual discs included so I was just curious as to what the mystery disc is.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

You can do a full restore without the "supplemental" disk. However, some utilities are located on it.

If you need it, I can burn you a copy, just PM me your address.

Yeah I figured it probably wouldn't be critical, I just thought it would be helpful in doing a full install on the machine and since I thought I was buying a full set to begin with it kinda bummed me out a little. No. biggie. Thanks for the info.

P.S. I will take you up on your offer though. :)
