Rescue & Recovery (RnR) refuses to see my external USB HD
Folks,
It'd been a while since I made a back-up, so I decided to make an entire new one from scratch and ditch the old one. Not readily seeing in Rescue & Recovery (RnR) a way to simply delete old back-ups I decided to just re-format the existing partition on my USB hard-drive where I save the backups. I did that but now RnR won't see or back up to that drive (just a partition actually) - it returns a non-sensical error message admonishing me to connect my already-connected USB hard-drive.
Any advice on how to get around this? I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Thinkpad R40. Rescue and Recovery is v3.01.0042; I tried to download and install the latest RnR update (v4.2) from the Lenovo site but it won't install - it gives the following message about my needing to delete the existing RnR installation first, which "Add and Remove Programs" in the WinXP Control Panel won't do - it returns a bunch of garbage-messages about "Unable to install ..." when I'm not wanting to install - I'm trying to DELETE:

While my ultimate objective is to get RnR to find my USB HD, I think the task at hand is to remove the existing RnR installation first, so I can then install RnR v4.2 - anyone know how to remove RnR outside of "Add and Remove Programs"?

From R&R's help info:
"Uninstalling the software
You must log onto the computer with administrator rights to uninstall the Rescue and Recovery program. For more information on user accounts, see the help system provided with the operating system.
When a non-administrator tries to uninstall the Rescue and Recovery program, an error message appears indicating that Rescue and Recovery files are corrupt, even though no files are actually corrupt. If an administrator uninstalls the Rescue and Recovery program, this message is not displayed and the Rescue and Recovery program will uninstall correctly."

Killer,
Thank you for trying to help but I don't know why I'd be logged into my computer as anything other than an administrator - I'm the only person who uses it; I think the following screenshot confirms this:

Also, I'm not getting any error messages about corrupted files; I'm getting idiotic messages advising me to use the Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs" process to first uninstall the existing version of RnR before trying to install a new one, when that's exactly what I was trying to do when I got the error message!
I need a way to remove RnR that doesn't rely on "Add/Remove Programs".

Re: Rescue & Recovery (RnR) refuses to see my external USB HD
Some time ago I had a few programs that I wanted to uninstall and they threw their toys out of the pram when I tried using the normal route. I search around and discovered YourUninstaller which had a 21-day free trial. It worked a treat!

I hope this sorts it out for you.

Killer,
Thanks for the lead - I'll check it out as well as some free uninstallers I've just come across and report back.
