Which Thinkpad display ?

Hi

Just got my new Thinkpad W500 2,8 ghz 4 gb RAM. 32 bit Vista Business

My question is (possible a silly one..):

When I want to adjust my screen, I can choose between three different:

1. Thinkpad Display 1920 x 1200 on ATI Mobility Fire GL V5700

or

2. Thinkpad Display 1920 x 1200 on Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

or

3. Standard screen on ATI Mobility Fire GL V5700 (this is external screen.. right ?)

Which am I to choose ???

And how do I set it up, so that when I connect it to my docking station it does the following things:

1. shuts down the Thinkpad screen and only uses the external screen

2. allows me to close the lid, without the computer shutting down

I hope the questions are not to stupid ;-)

Regards Tooms

Hi tooms,

you can choose an action when closing the lid in the Energy-Manager (Thinkvantage). If you don't use it, the systems settings (energy settings in system control) should also allow to configure this (Win XP; don't know if it is similar in Vista).

The standard screen might be the external screen. You can try to identify by changig the resolution.

If you are using the internal display, it depends on your needs wether you decide for the powerful ATI card oder for the energy savin onboard graphic. Concerning the following possibility to switch between display settings you could also try out if there is any difference in the behaviour when deceding for the ATI or the onboard graphic when using the internal display and then switching over to the external one...

The Lenovo Presentation Manager lets you define different display settings. You can save it into profiles. Press Fn+F7 to start it (if installed). If you are using a port replicator or a dock, you can define one of the profiles that is used every time the Thinkpad is docked. Without a dock you will have to change the profiles manually in the presentation manager.
