list of IPS / Flexview models?

#1 Post by Weogo » Sat Sep 05, 2009 3:47 pm

Hi Y'all,

My old eyeballs really appreciate the IPS / Flexview screens.

Is there a list of all Thinkpad models that had these screens?

Are there any other screens that are similarly bright, clear and easy to read?

Thanks and good health, Weogo

This http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display has a list of the ones that have included it.

Lenovo doesn't use them anymore, of course. The brightest screens available now are the high-nit LED on the T400 (which is WXGA and should be a little friendlier to you than some other options) and the the 400-nit screen on the W700 (which is both WUXGA, so not so friendly, and a bit pricier).

Someone on another forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthr ... 941&page=3 ) was in a similar position and seems very pleased with the T400.

The very last full size ThinkPads with these screens were T60/p units in 15" format with SXGA+ and UXGA LCDs.

Most of these machines will accept Core 2 Duo CPUs up to T 7600 which makes them pretty useful even in today's day and age.

Of course, there are tablets if you want a smaller machine...

I've seen most of the LCDs currently offered on Lenovo units and was beyond displeased with them.

I'd say is more than useful. Unless you're coding video or crunching Access databases all day, the newer platforms won't offer much in terms of performance.

Hi Y'all,

Is there a simple software checker that will identify what screen a Thinkpad has, for instance a T60P - either the Boe-Hydis HV150UX1-102 or IDTech N150U3-L01 screens?

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Everest can tell you the model number of the LCD.

Thanks Harry,

Am hoping to find something free that a seller can run on a laptop I'm interested in.

I tried my old Everest version 2.2 and, on my X41 tablet, it doesn't give that detail.

I downloaded the current trial version of Everest Ultimate and it also doesn't give that detail.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks and good health, Weogo

You may also take a look at the S-PVA models (some modern tablets) which provide you much better contrast than the IPS models. They are not that good with colors - but who wants to watch a movie on a 12 inch tablet? You may want to use these tablets for office applications - where contrast is more useful than "absolutely true" color accuracy.

Could you please provide any particular examples of such above-noted S-PVA models (some modern tablets)? Thanks.

Are LED screens that much more brighter than say an x61 tablet?

I do often... I also, have them on my iPod touch. Portability ftw.
