You're going to need a lot more (or should I say different) stuff than a T23 and some free software to be able to do what you're intent on...

My advice would be to get a phone with a "do not disturb" option, and place your phone number(s) on do-not-call lists.

The reason for caller-ID is, that you can SEE who's calling.
If it's an 800 number, just don't pick up the phone. It stops ringing after 3 rings.
We changed our phone number by going to another provider, and went ex-directory as well.
We haven't had a 800 call in ages.

Sorry 4 cross post, fig I may not be after a utility.

So, my modem is not capable of caller ID? We have call block though the phone co, but IT ONLY WORKS ON #S FROM THEIR NETWORK, go figure.

As advanced as computers have come, no one has come up w/ an automated operator. I find that a belittlement of technology.

TY4 reply, will cont my search.

It's either an untapped market opportunity through which you can make your fortune.....

...... or nobody really cares about using a POTS modem to do that in a world increasingly moving to mobile/wireless and VoIP telephony.

There's plenty of resources around which describes how caller ID works, but I don't know if / how to implement it with a particular modem. I'd say that if you are able to decode the CID signal and then parse it to see if it has the required area code(s), then you could send a couple of AT modem commands (ATH1, then ATH0) to hang up on them.

P.S. If any of this helps and you eventually get a patent (or better yet, millions of $$$), be sure to mention my name :) .
