[quote="ajkula66"]If you love the form factor and weight of X40, the closest you'll get to that is X60s.[quote]Agreed. This is exactly what I did after owning an X40 for three years. It's almost the same machine, just faster, a little heavier and a little warmer.
I know this isn't really the forum, but I picked up another machine that would also serve as a nice X40 upgrade. A Dell D410. First the background, I was buying a ThinkPad from a seller on eBay, prior to checkout, I took a look at the other items he had listed for sale. He had a Dell D410 with a 2.0GHz Pentium M (Sonoma platform, 533MHz bus) that appeared to be in mint condition - for $150. He was willing to combine the shipping with the ThinkPad I purchased, so the shipping was actually free. The overall condition was excellent, but the battery was weak. Luckily, there was a Dell battery recall and this one qualified. Dell sent a brand new battery! Regarding performance, the D410 is much faster than an X40. It's likely due to the faster CPU, bus and hard drive (5400rpm). The keyboard layout isn't perfect and the mouse buttons are a little too low on the trackpoint side (D410's have both touchpad and trackpoints!). They do not have optical drives and weigh about 4lbs. Anyway, for the price, D410's are solid, low-cost alternatives.
All that being said, with X60s's selling from $300 and up, they are rather hard to beat.
