Thinkpad Dock ll

#1 Post by CeeDee » Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:29 am

About 3 months ago I purchased a Dock ll, It's the full dock with PCI slot and drive bay. It was brand new when I purchased it, in unopened packaging. It does everythin I want it to and something I don't want it to!
That is the fan is LOUD all the time. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that this was a common fault.
I wondered if anyone here had overcome the problem; I can't even think why the fan runs at all when there is no card in the slot.

I disconnected the fan, it was almost as loud as my T43p  Then maybe 2 years later it died.

Did you have a drive or card in it when running with fan disconected?

I clipped the fan wire on mine a couple of years ago with no ill effects so far even with a video card with a passive heatsink installed.

That's good to know, thank you. I will do the same, or maybe put a switch in so that it can be used if necessary.
