Lenovo Thinkpad's screen brightness

Why does Thinkpads' screens are so dim compare to others the PoweBbook? I bought a used powerbook for $250 and it's much much brighter than my x61. It's kind of sad that when Lenovo emphasis quality, they don't put much emphasis on the screen. This will determine my next decision to buy a laptop. Perhaps, it is time I give up on the thinkpad?

The newer X series screens are significantly brighter, though not necessarily better image quality.
