Cloning a hard drive
Cloning a hard drive
I have heard this talked about before and read comments about it, is it possible to clone a hard drive? I do not have a winxp disk and want to upgrade my hard drive in the future. How do I clone my hard drive.
Thinkpad R51 type 2889PU1: Pentium M 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, 40GB 4200rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, Intel Extreme, WinXP Pro
Re: Cloning a hard drive
There is a product called Acronis TrueImage that might do what you want. I haven't used it but I am sure others have mentioned it.

X1 Carbon Win 7 Pro 64 for my wife.

Dogs must be carried on the escalator. Where can I find a dog?

There are a couple of cloning guides in the ** HOW TOs & FAQs ** forum.

Sure is. I've done it many times with Acronic True Image. But, Acronis is commercial software, and expensive IMHO, if you are only planning to do this once. Clonezilla is a free tool that works well for this job also. If you purchase a retail boxed hard drive, it will probably come with a set of tools that you can use to clone your old drive also. Also some manufacturers have these tools available for download on the web. WD and Seagate are two brands that have such tools that I have used before.dacp wrote:is it possible to clone a hard drive?

http://www.easeus.com/download.htm
I recently downloaded Easus partition tool to partition a HD. I also used it to clone a HD. Its free as well and dead easy to use. You just put the spare HD in a caddy, attatch it to the laptop, click copy and wait. Then just swap them over.

are the tools like Clonezilla able to clone everything -- including the "hidden" lenovo partitions?
570 --> T20 --> T40 --> T43 --> T61 (4:3) --> T400 -->T420 --> T440p + X240
Re: Cloning a hard drive
I can't speak for Clonezilla, but I've used Trueimage for a number of years and it copies the "Service" partition without an issue. I'd bet that similar software does too.pipspeak wrote:are the tools like Clonezilla able to clone everything -- including the "hidden" lenovo partitions?
