What drive do I need for a R51

#1 Post by dacp » Sun Oct 25, 2009 5:29 pm

I'm doing a search for a new larger faster hard drive for my R51, in a previous post I was informed I need a PATA drive. In my serach for hard drives all the options for the search are below but not the PATA. I am confussed, which drive do I need?
Thanks

DMA/ATA-100 (Ultra)
DMA/ATA-133 (Ultra)
DMA/ATA-66 (Ultra)
EIDE
IDE (103) SCSI
Serial ATA
Serial ATA II

You can use any PATA or EIDE drive. This would be an example. I think WD made a 320GB drive, which is the largest PATA drive.

From the list you've given, only the last three will not work. "ATA" drives, especially ones with -66, -100 and -133 suffixes, are understood to automatically be Parallel ATA (PATA) drives. Which is also sometimes referred to as EIDE. Those are NOT compatible with SCSI or Serial ATA (SATA) interfaces.
