Hi fellow thinkpad friends.

I've found af couple of auctions in ebay selling this IBM usb 2.0 external drive. I've found it with an including DVD drive, and DVD-RW drive.

Can anyone identify this IBM part?

The thing I like about this drive is the matching thinkpad theme, and the ability to power the drive directly from my thinkpad with no extra power.

Looks like a knockoff to me, the ibm drives usually use a blue eject button. I saw them on ebay, the driver disc doesn't say ibm either...

Still might be an ok drive though, but I doubt it is genuine IBM

I wasn't thinking of the drive inside. More of the "box" - I found another picture wich shows the IBM logo quite good, and it looks like a geniune IBM logo. But since i can't find any info on these boxe's i also start to wounder if it is a knock-off.

Does anyone know of an external housing for a ultra bay drive? (For usb)

I'm not familiar with every accessory for recent Thinkpads, but I've got both the IBM USB2.0 external CD/DVD drive and the IBM USB2.0 external CD-RW/DVD drive and they're both clamshell style devices, not tray style.

Regards,

James

Well. I know the only way you could get a unit looking like that (plain deive with an IBM case) is an Ultraslimbay external for a tp 570/600

Those were PCMCIA, as JHEM said, most ibm drives are clamshell

To make an IBM logo like that, all you need is a stencil and some Krylon, or a sticker. Kind of like the IBM external usb 2.5" enclosures
