can you program your thumb button?
Before I installed the IBM BT driver, I have no problem programming it, but after the switch, no matter how I change it, it will only function as the forward/back button.
Any solutions?
Thanks in Advance

I have no problem with it at all. Did you install the Microsoft Drivers for the mouse?
However, it was a pain in the [censored] when I first installed the drivers for the mouse itself.
Installing the Microsoft Drivers initially completely wiped out the Trackpoint drivers so my Installation of this was as follows:
1) Install Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse drivers (from the supplied installation Disc)
2) Re-Install IBM Trackpoint drivers
From clicking on Control Panel > Mouse > Buttons tab I have the ability to re-assign the thumb buttons (and I tried it just to make sure that it works).
Hope that helps.

Do you have bluetooth built -in or did you use the USB BT doogle?nacy333 wrote:I have no problem with it at all. Did you install the Microsoft Drivers for the mouse?

I have bluetooth built-in on my T42, and I am using the IBM bluetooth driver. I was using the built in MS bluetooth driver, and I can use the mouse and keyboard WITHOUT a problem (programing it wise), but I can NOT upload images from my BT cell phone to my T42. That's is why I switched to IBM BT driver, and now I have no problem uploading pic into my T42, but I can not use the thumb button on the MS mouse. and I did install the MS mouse driver.
any more suggestions?
I have bluetooth built in. As for which driver I'm using...I wouldn't know sa checking the Hardware tab from the Bluetooth devices shows that I am using both the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator (I'm not using the included MS Bluetooth Device that came with the mouse) and the IBM Integrated Bluetooth 2. Just as well, I've been able to upload files and pictures from several BT enabled mobile phones...
I have a Wireless Intellimoue Explorer (ver 4.1 driver), it works well with all my apps.
So I got the newer WIE-2.0 (Ver 5.2 driver) with the additional E-W scrolling, and much to my surprise it does less then its predecessor model. For example, I cannot get to scroll in a LOTUS spreadsheet. Moreover it has fewer programming options for the buttons; One of those missing is [ESC] which I use good to effect also in AutoCAD -- I have it on the large thumb button on the WIE-1 -- but miss it on the WIE-2.0.
My last observation is that the wheel on the WIE-2.0 feels sticky and sluggish by comparison.
Does anyone have similar experiences? Is there an add-on or utility to add to the programmable options?

Erg... Installed WIE-2.0 (IntelliPoint 5.2) as well (Wireless IntelliMouse 2.0), and now I've lost the functionality of the middle button on my trackpoint.
I've tried reinstalling the UltraNav Drivers and app with no luck.
Has anyone been able to install the IntelliPoint software (for mapping mouse buttons), and use the middle button on the trackpoint (for scrolling)?
EDIT: Mods, please move this thread to General Hardware unless you think otherwise.

Update:
I have upgraded to Wincomm4.1XXX driver, and it still doesn't work.
I did found a MS hardware support site that someone has the same problem, and by reading it, I think the Tech from MS says that we should use the SP2 BT driver in order to get it to work.
but MS BT driver simply sucks.... I can't upload images from my phone to my lappy!
Just waiting for the next release of MS software or something...

Found Solution
But there is a drawback if you use the WIDCOMM drivers. The Intellipoint software stops working and you can't modify the button assignments of your MS mouse or enable the accelerated scrolling etc, leaving the mouse to the default settings e.g. the thumb buttons are Forward - Back no matter what you set in the Intellipoint applet. This is because the filtering driver (point32.sys) and its user-mode application (point32.exe) don't load.
Well there is actually a workarround to this "problem".
If you have already installed the Intellipoint software go to: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Mouse" and open "point32.inf" using a text editor (e.g. Notepad).
You should find 3 times the string:_VID&0001045e_PID& and replace it with:&VID_045e&PID_ in all 3.
Save "point32.inf" and exit the text editor. Then go to "Device Manager-->Mice and other pointing devices" and right click on the "HID-compliant mouse" and choose "Update Driver...". Do an "Advanced" update of the current driver and "Browse..." for the file you just edited, "point32.inf". Install the driver and if you have turned ON the alerts for digitaly signed drivers, the system will alert you, just click on "Install Anyway". After that the mouse is correctly recognised by Windows and the only thing left is to manually run (only for the first time) "point32.exe" in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Mouse" (just double-click it). And there you go
. Intellipoint runs gracefully again !! One last point is to make sure that "point32.exe" is in your startup list so that it loads every time you boot. If it isn't, just put it in your startup folder.

I have been using the BT mouse
It has it's drawbacks. But to get it to work reliably - I have had to use the MS BT driver/stack. Where are the new widcomm stacks located?
the device manager (update driver) was telling me, that there's no driver for my hardware when i pointed it to edited file (it failed with the unedited too), but figured that out:
for some unknown reason, my mouse have different IDs... these lines did the trick - edit C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.inf
replace:
with:
this allowed me to "update" the driver to the MS INTELLIMOUSE EXPLORER FOR BLUETOOTH (*NOT* MS WIRELESS INTELLIMOUSE EXPLORER FOR BLUETOOTH)
to find correct device hardware id, look up to the device manager> mouse > hid mouse > properties > details > hardware id... then find the appropriate "NAME" in the .inf file and replace the part of the string to compy with your device id... you have to do this three times in the .inf file...
i successfuly "updated" the driver, but programming of buttons still didn't work - so i had to put point32.exe into startup (start menu/startup - just put in a shortcut) and RESTART COMPUTER =)

seems like version 5.5 was released =))) see if it fixes this issue =) (edit: It does not - point32.exe renamed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe )
