DVD drive problem after OS reload

#1 Post by Tõnis » Sat Nov 21, 2009 4:26 pm

I reloaded the OS from my Lenovo partition. I forgot to put my DVD drive into the Ultrabay before I did the reload. Now, when I put the drive in and install a data DVD I made before, it plays the DVD fine, and I'm able to see and view all my files. It recognizes the disc as a DVD in My Computer. But, when I try to create a new data DVD and insert a blank one, I'm not able to add any files to the DVD. It keeps saying "Windows has encountered a problem copying this file," and gives the options to skip, retry, or cancel.

Before the operating system reload, I was not using DLA (deleted it, I think), and Roxio (which I was using) was an option in Auto Play. Now, Roxio isn't an option in Auto Play. I can find numerous Roxio files, for example, in Program Files if I use Search, but I can't find it in All Programs and I can't find it (or DLA) in Add and Remove Programs.

I would like to use Roxio to burn data DVD's. How can I get it to work like before so I can burn DVD's again the way I did before, with Roxio as an option in Autoplay? Did I blow it by reloading the OS without the DVD drive in place? I should also mention that although a previously made data DVD shows up as a DVD, a blank DVD shows up as a CD in the drive when I look in MY Computer. TIA.

You need to do the reload again, but this time WITH your DVD-RW in it.
Otherwise you won't get the DVD-RW related software installed, and this is not an option on the Lenovo website either!

Well, that's not very good news at all, RBS. But okay, at least I know what I have to do. Thank you.

OR, you could install some 3rd-party burner software like Nero.

An update:

I reinstalled everything from the partition with the DVD burner in place and just burned a DVD with the Roxio program that came with my machine and which I'm accustomed to using. So, thanks again! Had you not told me that it all had to be reloaded, I would have just wasted time and gone crazy trying to find the non-existent "setting" or "driver" which was stopping it from working.
