WWAN Ericcson F3507g Dell 5530 WinXP ThinkpadX200

#1 Post by haraldnote » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:56 pm

X200, WinXP, Modified BIOS
Installed Dell 5530 Minicard in X200. With modified BIOS(thanks to Zender) I can boot.
WinXP32 Device Manager sees "Dell Wireless 5530 HSPA Mobile Broadband Minicard Device".
The Dell 5530 is a branded Ericcson F3507g.
Neither the Lenovo driver nor the Dell driver installs.
Any ideas how I can install a driver for this essentially Ericcson F3507g?
Edit:
Got drivers installed ok from Dell Mini Forum.
http://go.mydellmini.com/?id=258X408&ur ... 30_GPS.zip

using Hperterminal:
when connecting to "Dell Wireless5530 HSPA Mobile Broadband Minicard Com11"
AT gets OK

when connecting to "Dell..GPS Port(COM9)
AT gets no response
Turn GPS on:
AT+CFUN=1
AT*E2GPSCTL=1,5,1
gets no response
using Nav Program OziExplorer on GPS Com9
gets:
CommState DCB could not be set: Error 87 Flags 4113
Could not Initialize Communications
Running Diagnostics on Modem:Dell...Minicard Modem
gives proper modem response

Edit:
Taped pin 20 (just on one side of the PC Card, is this correct?)
Hyperterminal on COM9 GPS: AT+CFUN=1 gets no response
Ericsson Wirelesss Manager 5.2 reports No Mobile Broadband Modem
Edit:
Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC) shows Dell Wireless 5530..Modem
Status Active, green indicator.
But reports No SIM found with good SIM in slot.
Edit:
After a couple of blue screens installing different drivers, WinXP no longer allows me to install the "working" drivers.
edit:
Drivers reinstalled.
SIM is recognized and Vodafone Mobile connect (VMC) established Mobile connection via Dell Wireless D5530..Minicard Modem.
Had to completely remove power cord and battery for a few minutes as described here:

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/3g-mobi ... ected.html

Also note that SIM is inserted with connectors down(X200 upside down with battery removed) and cutoff edge of SIM outside of slot.

GPS still does not respond to AT under Hyperterminal on GPS COM

Efrant a couple of threads below this one is experiencing the same problem using this card with a Zender BIOS update in Windows 7. Kind of sounds like there is a bug in the BIOS update to me (could be wrong though).

Efrant gets past installing the driver ok and is not using Dell5530. Zender Bios gets me past the White List and through the POST and appears to do the job ok.
How does WinXP match hardware found with the correct driver and how can I fool it/force it to use an F3507g driver for the Device Manager identified Dell 5530 (which is just a rebranded F3507g)?

My problem is different. All the drivers load fine for me. It's just getting Access Connections (or whatever other program) to use the card...

There is also nothing wrong with the BIOS, as it allows us to get past the BIOS check, which is all the mod is supposed to do.

Take a look into this Post: WWAN access options for an X300 in the UK - Forum member: Constantinus did manage to get his Dell 5530 (F3507g) working in a ThinkPad X300 :D
