Can't Get Volume Control Meter on Screen!

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T42 laptop. I recently got a bad "redirect" type malware virus, and decided to wipe the disk clean and reinstall the operating system. I'm all loaded up and running, but I used to have a nifty green volume read-out on the screen whenever I either muted or changed the volume. The volume buttons do work, I just don't see the read-out. There is s volume icon in the task bar--a generic Windows type volume control. How can I get the on-screen volume control back? I'm running WinXP SP3. Thanks! Steve

OK! That was awesome! There's one more item I'm missing that you might be able to help me with. Before I wiped this baby clean and did the reinstall, there was a nice "Battery Life Remaining" meter that appeared on the bottom tool bar. That's gone now. I DO have the small battery icon in the task bar which is a standard windows item. Do you have any suggestions on getting the meter back? Thanks! Steve

All T42/T42p software and drivers can be found here:

For the battery meter, I believe what you need is "Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management Features":
