I'm looking on E-Bay for a new IBM battery for my T30, but I dont want one thats been sitting on the shelf for a couple years. The seller has sent me the serial# 11SO2K7034Z1Z51T39909B. Is there any way to tell how old it is without putting it in my computer. Thanks

Will the battery be damaged if it has been not used for long time?

Could be, because of the deep discharge, that kills EVERY Li-Ion Battery!

So what's the best way to take good care of the battery?

I think there's no "right" way, the batteries are limited, there's no way around it.

Unfortunately yes  The worst thing you can do with your li-ion is shelf it for a long time.
