Annoying loud critical battery alarm on Thinkpad R61

Hi everyone!
I run with vista, and I've tried to remove all the sounds linked to the low battery in the config panel/sound menu, but nothing has worked.
Everytime my battery comes to 1% this really loud alarm rings. And, say, to fall asleep with music, or when just letting the battery die completely before charging it to extend its lifespan, it's really annoying. Anyone knows how to cut it off?

Thank you in advance.

Yikes.

I think I've heard that you should not cycle your batteries down that low often. Sometimes the battery will throw an error and not want to charge again!

There is a nifty option in Power Management which will allow you to decide what percentage your battery will start charging and stop charging. I would suggest using that scheme to avoid the alarm and to extend the battery life.

You're mistaken. That just kills it faster.

So, are you guys saying that if I use my laptop on the battery then I should try to charge it asap rather than let it die?
That's news!

Thanks anyway, and if you know the answer to that annoying alarm nonetheless I'm taker.

Mimufely yours.
