Internal Modem Question

Would I be correct in assuming that the built-in phone modems on most newer ThinkPads (T4x, T6X, T400, T500, W500 and up) are only FAX/Dial-up Internet modems without Voice capabilities and therefore I can not use a mic/speakerphone to talk when dialing up a number via my computer?

Or, is there separate software available that will allow using my T61p's built-in CXT phone modem to make voice calls with a headset w/mic?

How about adding an external voice capable modem?

I have 12 year old external serial connect Diamond SupraExpress 56e K56flex Data/Fax/Voice modem sitting in a spare parts drawer ..... would that be worth trying? However, I'm not sure I still have the old voice mail software that came with it .... maybe it will work with just the WinXP Dialer.exe program instead?

Thanks.

You'd need to connect the TP to a docking station/port replicator with serial port.
And you can still get Diamond drivers here: http://www.dmmdownload.com/legacy.php

Thanks for the driver link .... I was already on a mini-dock that had an available serial port and things are working great now!
