Want to replace my Intel 3945ABG wireless car on R60

#1 Post by Pepsibottle1 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 8:01 am

I want to replace my card with a newer adapter, simply because I use my neighbor's WiFi and I need to increase my signal. I do a bit of gaming, so this is why I decided to do this, just to gain a couple of bars and to install a external antenna. This is especally the case when I go to my vacation home in Nags Head, NC, where the signal is DREADFUL and I have to walk outside and sit next to my mailbox to recieve a fair signal.

I've heard the errore, and wanted to check here first before I go ahead and do so. So, with that said, can I uninstall and remove my current 3945, and replace it with something more powerful?

Found this: http://www.intel.com/network/connectivi ... /index.htm

I want the Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, that would be a HUGE improvement over what I have now.

I donw know squat about networking though. Would that be compatible, and how do I install it?

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to get your own wifi? :BAAAD!:

Long story behind that...

My dad ditched Cox internet and bought a Sprint 3g card for himself, why I have no idea. So anyways, I use the neighbor's wifi, because it's the only alternative. They don't mind, they actually set it up as a neighborhood hotspot, and they use another one for personal use.

But would that be possible to do, and would my signal be improved?

If you install a wifi-N card, it would only work in that range if your neighbors also have an N-router...
If they have 'only' G, then a G-card is your best bet.
