GPU load/heat vs. external screen resolution... questions

#1 Post by Yacek » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:04 pm

Hello,
Recently I've been searching for some information on the connections between GPU load and resolution in laptops. I want to know if the size of external LCD monitor will influence the performance/load of NVIDIa 570 chipset in my T61p. Example: Will my thinkpad become hotter due to GPU load if I buy 22 inch 1920x1080 monitor instead of 19 inch of 1440x900?

I have found different views... ones suggest that the impact in both 2D and 3D is not noticeable (about 1-2%), while others say that only 2D is not affected, but 3D will make significant difference like 20% GPU load difference between 1920x1080 and 1440x900....

Any valuable and credible opinions?

thx in advance,

Yacek

This is right, mostly. There will be no difference in 2D. As far as 3D how much of a difference you see will depend on settings. For example if you run a game at medium settings with 1440x900 but low with 1920x1080, you may not notice a difference.

Yeah, it's perfectly clear. So I can guess that performance is closely linked with GPU load.... the worse performance (in 3D) the higher GPU load.... seems to be logical.
